I took 17 crayons out of a box. Next, I set up the crayons like the picture. I kept picking up different crayons trying to find out the answer. The surprising thing about the answer is that it is one big square and one little square.

I was playing around with the toothpicks and remembered my 3rd grade teacher told me that rectangles are squares but but squares aren't rectangles.then when I was done I came up with 1 rectangle verticle and another one that was horizontle

Are all rectangles squares? Think about the properties of a rectangle - opposite sides are the same length. Think about the properties of a square - all sides are the same length.

I took seventeen straws put them in two rows of three. Then,I looked at the problem at different angles. After,I knew need to take one square out from the bottom left hand corner then I took out four on the right that was dividing four.I was left with one little square and one big square. 8/23/2014 06:04:36 am
I took 17 straws and I took 6 away then I was left with 3 squares and 1 extra draw.

Which 6 did you take away? Why? Remember, you are supposed to be left with only 2 squares. Keep trying!

I made one big square and one small square by taking out two toothpicks in a corner and also took most of the inside parts of the shape. I took four toothpicks in the inside and I had three squares so I just took out a corner of the big shape and made one small square and one big square so it wasn't even.

I took 17 toothpicks and I placed them the same way as in the picture. I took away the 2 bottom toothpicks in the corner. That left me with 5 squares, and 15 toothpicks. Then, I took the 4 toothpicks in the middle. That meant I took away 6 toothpicks and had 2 squares left. I ended up with 1 big square and 1 smaller square on he left.

I had 17 strews and i put them together to make six small boxes inside one large box. I took out the straws from the bottom right and top left boxes as well as two from the middle to get to two boxes.

First,I took away 6 away from 17 and then I got 11.Next, I made a square with 8 toothpicks. Finally, I took the remaining 3 tooth picks and added them on to a side.

I put one on the top and one on the bottom then one on each side and two on top of each other to make it two squares
